What Is a DPF Cleaner and How Does It Work?

If you have a Diesel Vehicle you have probably already heard about DPF’s. Diesel Particulate Filters are essential to keep harmful soot out of the air and your engine running efficiently. However, over time that same filter can get clogged with soot and ash this therefore leads to a reduced performance. Which is where our DPF cleaners come in.

What causes DPF To Get Blocked or malfunction?

The DPF can get blocked due to several different reasons. The first one being that you may only be driving on short trips at a low speed. This means that the soot accumulates quicker than its being burnt off. Another reason may be due to faulty or weak sensors. Poor quality fuel or even faulty injectors.

What is a DPF Cleaner and how does it work?

Our range of DPF cleaners are designed to remove the soot and ash from blocked diesel and gasoline particulate filters. So how does it work? These are often sprayed directly into a cold DPF, the chemicals then soften the build-up of carbon and soot inside the filter. It may then ask for you to turn the engine on to ensure they are burnt off.

What are the signs of a clogged DPF?

There are a few different ways you can tell if your vehicle has a clogged DPF. This most obvious being that a warning light will appear on your dashboard. This may look like an amber filter symbol. Other signs would be loss of power, poor fuel economy, excessive exhaust smoke or the fan running constantly.

Does revving engine clean DPF?

Revving your engine doesn’t clean the DPF effectively, as it doesn’t reach the right temperature. Extended revving at idle also increases wear meaning that you may also run the risk of turbo damage. The best solution would be to use a DPF Cleaner.

 How long should DPF last?

A DPF should usually last between 80,000 and 150,000 miles. This can vary significantly based on driving habits, maintenance and the vehicles model.

Does driving style affect how well DPF works?

Yes, short drives at a lower speed are one of the main reasons they become blocked. Using high quality oil and taking longer drives will help to extend its life.
